Communication Methods
Communication methods refer to the various ways in which information, messages and ideas etc. are conveyed (expressed) for understanding. There are two types of Communication:
Verbal Communication
Verbal communication includes all forms of word usage. This means that both oral and written words are used. Verbal communication is further divided into written and oral communication.
Non-verbal Communication
Non-verbal communication makes use of symbols other than words to convey meaning. Non-verbal communication includes the overall body language of the person who is speaking, which will include the body posture, the hand gestures, and overall body movements.
The methods of communication are:
Oral communication is information spoken by mouth; the use of speech. Some of the examples of Oral Communication are:
Written Communication:
Communication by means of written symbols (either printed or handwritten). Some of the examples are:
Audio-visual Communication
Communicating with both the use of the spoken words and symbols (signs).
Visual Communication
Communicating with the use of symbols for representation.

- Enhances oral communication
- Can be costly to produce
- Can be time consuming
Audio-visual Communication
Communicating with both the use of the spoken words and symbols (signs).
Visual Communication
Communicating with the use of symbols for representation.
Advantages
- Enhances oral and written communication
- Caters to individuals who have speech impediments (barrier)
- Can be difficult to interpret
